Quick clarification for newbies: you don't have to use all the prompts--though that does make for a fun fic!--but since one of the categories for voting is "Best Use of Prompt" we do recommend using at least one.
As you know, this is the Official Discussion Post. If you feel like chatting, and we hope you do, pop in here and let us know how it's going.
And just so we're clear, you don't have to write pr0n, though it definitely makes for interesting reading when characters change right in the middle of shagging because you're too drunk to remember who you're writing about. ;) You can write for any fandom (including original), but keep in mind the majority of our players are HP people. Anything goes!

You will receive an email from us confirming that we got it. If you don't get an email, we didn't get it. Your fics/art will be due by midnight on Sunday, February 14th. Voting will begin on February 16th and last until Saturday, February 20th.

You can discuss ideas, drinks, how wasted you are, your favorite Hogwarts classes, best/worst romantic moments from the books/movies, what you'll do if you can ever leave the house again, or whatever floats your boat. Just don't discuss your fic/art. This is an anonymous fest until after the reveal, and we don't want hints being given as to what you're writing about. :)
Like all the best hostesses, we'll both be ducking in and out all evening. /o\ Torino is getting us started before rushing off (returning later with rum) and Shelly will be along in a bit with her usual bottle of Jack. (Don't worry. Not drinking the whole bottle.) How about you folks? What's the drink that's got you through the last year or the one you look forward to having the next time you actually can go to a restaurant or bar?

Date: 2021-02-13 02:19 am (UTC)I have this weird nostalgic love of peanut butter crackers. I'm sure they aren't actually good, but part of me is going, "OMG! I want peanut butter crackers!" Like... I don't even clearly remember when those were a thing, but I remember getting them on a semi-regular basis in some prevous lifetime when I was young. (I thnk they were a college thing when I was trying to hold out for another late night class or somethng.) It's so weird how nostalgia makes everything better than it really was.

Date: 2021-02-13 03:05 am (UTC)For serious. I have some inexplicably warm fuzzy memories of some of the shittiest periods in my life. Like... I remember being a teenager and life was full of just genuine suckage, but there was this ice cream stand a few blocks away from school and I remember going there with friends and getting this gigantic soft serve ice cream cone and hanging out at the picnic tables nearby and ... every now and then, I'll have this weird sense of "I miss that" and I have to remind myself that "No I don't!" There was nothing good about that time period and my friends at the time were shallow and not emotionally healthy to be around and yet... sometimes I'll hear an old song and suddenly I'm 16 and eating ice cream with one of my dumbass friends and thinking "Life was better then" but it wasn't.

Date: 2021-02-13 04:11 am (UTC)Exactly! It's so weird how human memories work. It's like some days the negative filter is switched on and every single memory of my life was horrid yet some days the rose-colored filter is switchehd on and the past is somehow magically better.
It's always interesting listening to someone younger talk about "the good old days" but they're talking about about a period in time that's already in my "after it was crappy" timeline.
And, oh, god, the comments people make about music and how it was so much better in the (whatever time period they are nostalgic about, always linked to their own age and not any objective quality about music)'s and "music today sucks". Ugh. No. Comparing the classics of the past (the music that by definition people remember and continue to listen to long after the moment has passed) to whatever random song has just come out, it's never a fair comparison. The memorable stuff is always going to be a small percentage of the garbage, but that doesn't mean there is more garbage "these days". It just means we always forget the boring parts from the old days.
There's nothing rational about nostalgia. I've heard people tell stories while laughing about accidents that almost killed them.
