‘Wynter wakeneth al my care’ is one of the earliest surviving winter poems in English literature. You can read more about it here. As soon as I saw it, I thought it looked perfect for FWF. ;)

Firewhiskeyfic is SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9! So don't start drinking yet--at least not for the event! :D

For this Wintry Mix Edition, we highly recommend 46 Best Winter Cocktails for the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

The festivities will begin at 10PM GMT/5PM EST/2PM PST on Saturday December 9! Hopefully, the time works for you but remember that you can come and go as you please, start early, leave late. It's all good as long as while you are writing, you're drinking. :D

A rundown of the rules. A more thorough explanation will be posted on the night of the event.


1. This round will take place on Saturday, December 9, 10PM GMT/5PM EST/2PM PST (and last until you finish or pass out). Due to sucky time zones mucking everything up, if you'd like to start earlier or later, that's fine!

2. Your fic and/or art will be due approximately 48 hours from the challenge start time. For this round, that means Monday, December 11 by midnight your time. (We would prefer to turn them in the same night or the next morning, but we understand drunk/hangover emailing might be a tad too challenging.)

Please note: The extra time provided may not be used for editing or adding on or fixing typos, etc. (If you were too drunk to add a header, please add one when sober. ;)) Also note: NO BETAS ALLOWED. We recommend you don't even look at or reread your submission before turning it in. (You can be surprised right along with the rest of us!)

3. Submissions will be posted anonymously on December 12th and voting will be open for various categories through Saturday, December 16th. Please vote! (But not for yourself! :P)

4. All fandoms are welcome! We're traditionally very HP-focused here, but if you get inspired to go Marvel or Supernatural or Doctor Who, etc., etc. (or a crossover!) that's totally fine.

5. And finally, you must be of legal drinking age in your country in order to participate.

6. This is a 420-friendly event for those who'd like an alternative to alcohol.

I will 100% be there for the drinking and the chatting. I might bail on the fic this round though as I'm in the midst of a slow-motion mental breakdown. (Two weeks until moving day!) If inspiration strikes, bonus, but I'm not going to pretend to be optimistic about my brain capacity at the moment.

Excellent plan! Honestly, most drinks sound like far too much work LOL so I tend to stick with my old standbys.

Anybody besides me notice that when you click on the link that says "50 Best Winter Cocktails" it leads to an article about 46 cocktails, not 50? (That's okay, though, 46 suggestions is already more than I'll be trying during one FWF...I'm thinking to try just 2 or 3 of them because I already had some of my FWF drinking planned out.)

I'm appreciating that the Wintry Mix Edition is featuring some served-warm drinks. I didn't have any warm drinks planned and I think I'll try a couple of the served-warm ones on that list.

I tend to prefer cold alcoholic drinks but there's definitely a place for warm ones. *nods*
