Severus had been confused and chagrined -- both uncomfortable emotions.
He hadn't meant to listen in, he had been looking for Harry to see what he'd like to do about dinner.

"It's a special anniversary, Ron!" Harry protested.
"Harry, I don't know..." Ron sounded doubtful.
"But it means so much!" Harry replied, forcefully.
Ron sighed. "If you think so, go for it! But I'm not so sure it's the thing to do."
Severus must have made a small nooise. "Gotta go!" Harry whispered.
Severus withdrew, but he had much to think about.

Because of their schedules, they didn't always have an entire evening together. Between Harry's work as a physician and the demands of brewing potions, they were often lucky to have dinner together. But the overheard conversation made Severus alter some plans so he'd be available on a night he knew Harry would be home.
As Harry sat at the dinner table, he inhaled appreciatively.
"Smells delicious!" Harry grinned. "What's the special occasion?"
"I just thought that we don't get too many evenings together recently," Severus deflected. "Since I don't have an commissions that are a huge priority, and you have the night off, I thought it would be nice to have a good meal together.
Harry looked at the small box next to his plate. "Presents?"

"But I didn't get you anything!" Harry protested.

Harry got up from his place and moved toward Severus. He wrapped his arms around Severus and brought him in close. Severus placed his arms around Harry, to return the hug. Harry turned his face up to Severus and Severus dropped a soft kiss on warm lips.
"Well, I don't care what the occasion is," Harry declared. "Thank you."
Severus frowned to himself. Maybe he had done this too soon. Damn! He wished he knew what anniversary he was missing.
Harry went back to his chair and unwrapped the small box.
"Severus! It's beautiful!" Harru held up the healer insignia. "Is that really moonstone/"
"I thought it appropriate," Severus replied. "I am glad you like it!"
Harry got back up/ "Can dinner survive under a statis charm?"
Severus nodded.
"Excellent!" Harry took Severys' hand and drew him into their bedroom.
