Just got home from work and opened my first alcohol of the evening ("Sweet Melody Chocolate Red Wine" from Pahrump Valley Winery in Pahrump, Nevada) and I see there are over 100 comments here already. I remember that last FWF I spent hours reading and responding to comments before I started ficcing. I'm gonna read and respond to comments for at least as long as it takes me to drink this whole bottle of wine. After that...???
Why this particular bottle of wine has such fannish meaning and such memories for me: at the fancon Escapade in California, before COVID, two of my friends who along with me were known as the "Wine Cabal" would host fannish wine-tastings as one of the panels of the con. After a few years of doing that, in the year 2019 we were at the fancon Con*Strict in Nevada and after the con we three went on a wineries tour in Pahrump, which is where I bought several bottles of this "Sweet Melody" wine. Arriving at the last bottle, bound up as it was with my wonderful memories of Con*Strict and of the wineries tour and of it having been one of my last two pre-COVID cons, I was saving it for "special-occasion fannish drinking". And is FWF "special-occasion fannish drinking"? HELL YES!
