“Whoops - My wand is a little over excited!”

Welcome to the 'Birds and Bees' edition of [community profile] firewhiskeyfic! We, your Mods - [personal profile] sdk and [personal profile] torino10154, are so glad you could make it. We love everyone today. Feel free to friend us on DW. We promise not to stalk you... much. :D

Your challenges for this round are:

Gilderoy Lockhart

Sex Ed

Honey

Birds of a Feather

Well-Bred

Total Eclipse (of the Heart)

Quick clarification for newbies: you don't have to use all the prompts--though that does make for a fun fic!--but since one of the categories for voting is "Best Use of Prompt" we do recommend using at least one. We try to have a few prompts each round that are not HP-specific.

As you know, this is the Official Discussion Post. If you feel like chatting, and we hope you do, pop in here and let us know how it's going. Please do not discuss your fic/art. You can discuss ideas, drinks, how wasted you are, your favorite actors or musicians, the state of the world (a nice, safe topic LOL), or whatever floats your boat. Just don't discuss your fic/art. This is an anonymous fest until after the reveal, and we don't want hints being given as to what you're writing about. :)

And just so we're clear, you don't have to write pr0n, though it definitely makes for interesting reading when characters change right in the middle of shagging because you're too drunk to remember who you're writing about. ;) You can write for any fandom (including original), but though we're getting more diversity, we're still fairly HP-focused. Anything goes!

Once you are semi-conscious, send your UNBETA'D UNCORRECTED fic to this email: fwfdrunkmods@gmail.com Trust me, we can tell if you've messed with it, so don't do it, okay?

You will receive an email from us confirming that we got it. If you don't get an email, we didn't get it. Your fics/art will be due by midnight on Sunday, April 14th. Voting will begin on April 15 and last until Friday, April 19th.

HERE IS THE HEADER! You can put this in the email body or the fic body. Whatever!

(please fill this out to the best of your ability. If you're unable, we will try to complete it for you)

In order to make things easiest on your poor, likely hungover mods, please put your DW username and (if you can manage) the title of your fic/art into your subject line or at least somewhere in the body of the email. Thank you!

Torino plans to start with a Malibu Bay Breeze while Shelly is the designated driver tonight! ;)

Let's get our drunk on!

kitchen counters

[personal profile] oldtoadwoman 2024-04-13 04:04 am (UTC)(link)

Absolutely every kitchen needs to be larger. All of them. I've never been in a kitchen and thought, "Yes, this is more than enough counter space."

Also, I think I might be sobering up becuase I had the fleeting thought that everything I've written so far is crap and I shouldjust delete it. I need to finish my drink and get back to my "brilliant" story.

No, don't look back at that fic. You know that with FWF fic you're supposed to just keep going forward!

My kitchen is small and I know that your kitchen is deffo small. I have seen country kitchens in farmhouses where I thought there was a reasonable amount of counter space, but never in the city or even in the suburbs.

I had a kitchen once that had enough FLOOR space for a dance party but still not enough counter space.

Well then, you could have put a lot of things on the FLOOR (I do).

I sometimes question whether architects have ever lived in homes. Are they grown in a lab somewhere?

Have you ever looked at a copy of "Architectural Digest"? Either those dudes were in fact grown in a lab or else they came from another planet.

For real, there are always just basic human considerations missing from so many places. I can't realistically complain about my current apartment because it was, in fact, converted from being a 1920s hotel room. (zero counter space, a single closet for both clothes and cleaning supplies and general storage, and I have to awkwardly twist to reach the toilet paper roll which is mounted on the back wall behind me, etc)

But I've seen so many places that are otherwise upscale and are still missing basics like counter space, closet space, have awkward kitchens & bathrooms, have no flow around entrances so you can picture people having to say "excuse me" constantly to get around people in the kitchen to get out the back door, etc, etc. And, Lord, sound insulation. Can we please normalize sound insulation as a standard (not just luxury) feature? I don't want to always hear what my neighbors are up to.

And I don't understand "open" floorplans that mean no one in the home has any privacy at all. I think open floorplans were designed by single people who throw a lot of parties. That's the only scenario where they feel like they make sense. Do you want 30 or 40 people to be able to mill around while listening to the same music? Fine. Do you expect a family to share a space where one person is playing video games and another is trying to study and one is trying to work and one is trying to cook and one is trying to watch TV or listen to music? Chaos.

Can't stand being forced to listen to what someoene else in the hosue is listineing to and also dont want to impinge on the thoerh person being made to listen to myu stuff. Headphone-listiening is a REQUIRED thing in my household.

Ooops. Wasnt'k I supposed to be ficcing now, deep int The Drunkening?

actual conversation overheard from neighbors: "Angela! I ruined my hair! It looked good and then i ruined it"

I should not be able to make out actual words being spoken in the apartment next door. ( I wll forever wonder what Angele's friend did to her hair.)

Neighbor also likes to play Jingle Bells on the keyboard and just ... why are you playing Jingle Bells at this time of year?

very very minmal progress with the ficcing so far

I had a friend (now ex-friend thankfully) who was very judgemental about my taste in music. (She literally mocked all my "best of" CDs at being a sign of my low-brow tastes, but "best of" collections are the chepest most ifefficiet ways o getting good tuens.( And I still sor t of have it in my head that people wil ljudge me fr my "basic" taste in music. so in addition to it just feeling polite to not sbuejct my tmusic on others, I allways wear headphones when listening tomusic so I odn't have to worry about wohat other people thinjk o fome.

Even in our 2-person household in a Chicago-style bungalow it's not easy to have a space where one can be "uninterrupted". The first floor is so "open". I've always had an idea about making the attic into a kind of writer's retreat, but have just never been up to dealing with making it a lighted and heated space (and also the space is impacted by the low and angled roof line -- the space was never meant to be "live-in" space.)

Sometimes I just fantasize about a dream home and I picture a three-story with a sort of secret attick. nt syre wherei'dhidethe stairs to getup there, but the dream is to have thislibrary type space on the third floor that no one else realizes is more than just "attic" space but it would be a full comfy floor with books and comfy chairs and maybe a bathroom and kitchenette so I could just have a seret apartment where NO ONE BUGS ME because apparetlny my biggest fantasy invlives hiding from other humamn.s
