I'm guessing the "viina" part is the same root as "wine"?
(I think I shall call vineyards "booze hills" from now on.)
It never occurred to me before that "vine" and "wine" might be related. I assumed that vineyards were called that because grapes grow on vines, but... that's probably where "wine" comes from? (Or does "vine" come from "wine"? Etymology fascinates me.) Off to gooogle... yup, yup, definitely seems like vine/wine were the same word originally.
