The style is very special... reminds me of short stories from last century or the century before? The story is oddly captivating despite the complete lack of dialogue. And perhaps you truly want to say :) something with that choice (no matter if it was conscious or not).

even then Arthur couldn't find the words. How had he obsessed over this man for ages and not have the words.

Maybe those lines say it all more explicitly. The other explicitness is great, too.
