Title: The Secretry

Summary: Lavender has been Harry’s secretary for many years

Author's Notes (if any): I think this was meant to have a whole second half I was too wasted to even think about never mind try write. Oops.
Lavender Brown works as the secretary to Harry Potter for several reasons. It pays well. It is in the Ministry so she will get a pension despite being a werewolf though she knows Granger is working on the whole despite thing. She can do it because fighting with Potter or not she was never topping any classes that mattered. And well then there is the fact that Harry Pptter has never treated her any differently from the day he met her. WEll outside of when she was Ron’s girlfriend but all people are odd at sixteen she recons.
The point is that there are scars across her face no spell or make up can hide and it isn’t just slashes like Weasley has. No. Hers are horrid bites marks around her neck and cheek where Greyback tried to rip her throat out. The wolf saved her. If she hadn’t turned she would have died.
Weird that.
But yeah, she is a secretry to Harry Potter himself and that brings her into contact with the weird, the wonderful and the downright annoying. That is where it works to be a scarred creature war hero. If she stands from her desk and lets the light hit her eyes and scars and reminds a person that ‘No, Mr Potter is busy’ it just goes better than Bell’s attempts down the hall for whomever she is working for this week. NEver stays long in one place that girl. Belongs in the air but it never worked out, LAvender guesses.
She is there through every promotion Potter gets until he is Head of the DEpartment.
“Wonder who I will serve next?” she asks cheerfully whilst hugging him at the news. HE only looks confused for a few moments before he scoffs and then gently cuffs her across the back of her head.
“Me, Lav. Where I go you go. Or I’d never get enough peace to get anything done.I’m not leaving you behind for that fucking bellend Deckerman to pick up on.Besides, you’re the only one that can’t be bribed to let any arsehole in to meet me just cause I’m Harry Potter. Cause you never gave a shit in the first place.”
“I might have if you had ever learned to comb your damn hair.”
That had been ten years in and his marriage was over by then and Lavender tries so hard not to see or feel more.
See most don’t see Lav. They see the scars and it is not that they are put off by them alone. IT is just they see the war after that. They get caught up in their own memories and Lavender does not blame them for that. No one ever really got out unscatched. Merlin, she never pays for her potion because Malfoy pays his debt to society by helping those like her even though no Court ever asked him to do that.
So there is thing between her and HArry. SOmetimes she thinks it matters and then other times it doesn’t. Harry doesn’t date after the divocre but he does not change his behaviour with LAvender either. Not that she changes her. She’s still, well her, and he’s HArry Potter. Voldemort slayer or not he is HEad Auror and HEad of the Potter FAmily and Black family too though rumours say he might pass that to his Godson.
The Godson is what breaks it all. He is entirely too open and good and honest and really Lavender should have known better. Known better than to trust charming smiles and small talk. Those used to be her weapons after all.
It is the start of February and the boy, man, irritant really, is new in the department and fresh out of training. Out of training and straight on to Lavender’s nerves becuse Harry has things to DO that do NOT involve Teddy okay? Still, it is hard to be angry with the boy who looks so eager with every assignment he is given and always greets her nicely and offes to get HER a tea before going to see his Uncle.
But he is still to blaem for it all. Telling Harry he should get something for LAvender for VAlentines.
“She’s been with you so long Uncle and she deserves it.”
Lavender is not sure who wants the ground to swallow them more. Her or POtter.
At least the latest alarm gives him an escape. She is the one left with a grinning and eager nineteen year old.
